Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was convicted of planning a government overthrow in last fall and sentenced more than a 27-year term in jail, but he was staying under confinement pending legal challenges.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a preventative measure after fresh information emerged.
